FAQ's About 2018-2019 Tryouts and Season:
Q: When are tryouts likely to be held?
A: Tryouts were held in December 2018
Q: If I don't play club soccer, could I still make the team?
A: Yes! Players in the past have come from all different levels of play and experience.
Q: How many players will make the team?
A: It depends on the talent I see out on the field. I don't like to see anyone on the bench for too long and give everyone playing time, but with a larger team it is hard to do that. I will likely take no more than 18 players.
Q: I tried out last year, but didn't make it, could I make it this year?
A: Yes! Every player, including those who were on the team the previous year, starts with a clean slate. 7th graders have just as much of a chance of making the team as 8th graders, and I encourage those who didn't make it last year to come out again.
Q: Will there be scrimmages before tryouts?
A: Possibly, it depends on field availability and weather. They will not be held as tryouts, but just friendly matches.
Q: I have a packed schedule and won't be able to make some of the practices, will that be a problem?
A: Showing up to practice is the biggest indicator of how I can use a player in the game. I won't hold it against a player for having a busy schedule alone, but if they do make the team, they may not have a lot of playing time. I encourage players to talk to me about their schedules prior to tryouts.
Q: What do I need to bring to tryouts?
A: First and foremost, a positive attitude. I will take players who work as a team and contribute to the overall morale of the group. Secondly, your gear: cleats, shin guards, socks, and appropriate clothing. Please make sure your hair is properly secured as well. Lastly, if you need any specialized gear like a brace or inhaler, make sure you bring that with you.
I look forward to seeing you out on the field soon, and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me!
Sincerely,
Coach Traquair
